22 Jul TV Shows: The Young Riders
From 1989 - 1992, Old Tucson Studios and Mescal were the primary film locations for ABC's "The Young Riders." For three seasons television audiences thrilled to the adventures of Pony Express riders at the Sweetwater & Rock Creek stations.
Veteran actors like Anthony Zerbe (Aloysius "Teaspoon" Hunter), James Gammon, Noble Willingham, Brian Keith, Leigh Taylor Green have all worked on the show, lending their talents to exciting episodes that highlighted the West at a time before telegraphs sent news across the nation in heartbeats.
The young cast of Pony Express riders included some of today's well-known personalities - Josh Brolin portrayed a young 'Wild Bill' Hickok along with Stephen Baldwin as "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Another cast member from the first season was Melissa Leo (Emma Shannon) who recently was awarded an Oscar for her work in "The Fighter."
