Director Ron Howard and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman plan to turn Mr. King's
ongoing multibook series into a joint TV and film project, with a trilogy of
films and a two-season TV series. Producer Brian Grazer recently announced the
TV series is headed to HBO. Part Western, part sci-fi and fantasy, the series
centers on a gunslinger on a quest to find the Dark Tower, a structure that
binds multiple universes together. The series grew so long and complicated (more
than 3,700 pages and growing) that Mr. King hired a researcher to draw up an
